Why charging infrastructure creates peaks
When several vehicles charge simultaneously, a high electrical power arises. This is especially true for DC fast charging, depot charging with fixed time windows or sites with a growing fleet.
Storage as a buffer
A battery storage system can pre-charge energy and additionally provide it during the charging windows. This means not every charging peak has to be drawn fully from the grid. It can reduce power costs and ease the upgrade of the grid connection.
Load management is essential
Without control, a storage system can be used incorrectly. Intelligent load and charge management prioritises vehicles, limits grid draw, accounts for PV generation and keeps reserves free for critical charging windows.
